CHOICES Action Team Meeting Minutes and Descriptions.
  • Community Coalition Board Minutes

The Board provides oversight and direction to CHOICES, coordinates and communicates about CHOICES activities. It also takes care of ongoing needs assessment, evaluation, and financial management. Members of the Board also participate in the other committees that carry out CHOICES activities. Because this group represents the community as a whole, it is also examines policies, laws, and ordinances that affect citizens in regard to tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.

  • Activities Team Minutes

This team is in charge of fun!  It sponsors dances, after-prom activities, and sober lunches and promotes opportunities that other Catalina organizations offer. This year, it will help to increase the number of activities available to young people and their families through business-sponsored activity cards, and explore the possibility of having a space on the island for young people to congregate and have fun without using alcohol and other drugs.

  • School Team Minutes

This group spearheads all of the efforts that take place at school or with students, such as prevention curriculum (Project Alert, Project Northland, STARS). It identifies, trains, and supports student leaders who are trying to make a difference, including the Social Action Team, Peer Mediators, Peer Helpers, and Peer Educators.) This team also coordinates other student activities such as Sober Lunches, Red Ribbon Week, and assemblies.

  • Resource Development Team Minutes

This team increases the island’s ability to identify and provide intervention, treatment and/or referral and continuing care services. It supports recovery groups on the island, such as AA/NA, Celebrate Recovery, and support groups. It ties together school and community-based programs (ASAP, Turning Point, Child Guidance Center and other counseling resources.) This year, the Resource Development Team will also provide input into the hospital's federally-funded feasibility study for local treatment programs.

  • Community Education Team Minutes

This broad-based team reaches out to the adult community to promote healthy choices about tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. It provides parent education, alcohol beverage server training, makes presentations to civic organizations, and carries out the setting standards campaign. As the voice of CHOICES, it creates a presence through participating in community events such as health fairs, and the Hoe-Down. It is also responsible for getting information out through the media. This year, the education team will help to develop the CHOICES website, and will support educational efforts within the faith and business communities.
